Liar Game started showing this week and since it sounded interesting, I decided to start watching it as soon as the subbed episodes were released.
This drama caught my attention, firstly because it had an attention grabbing title and the poster looked really cool. Plus I couldn't get enough of Lee Sangyoon since I just finished watching Angel Eyes so I was totally anticipating this drama, telling myself I had to watch it once it airs.
Since the drama just started, I would be writing my
first impressions and then when I've watched the whole drama, I would update this space with more in depth thoughts.
The characters.
The first character we are introduced to is the male lead, Cha Woojin (Lee Sangyoon), who's this really smart professor guy. If you guys know Criminal Minds, his character is exactly like that of the profilers and maybe with a cross of Patrick Jane from the Mentalist. He's someone who basically can tell what the person is thinking or is going to do from their behaviours. I'm sure there's a scientific term for that but I don't really know what it is. He's just a really smart guy. I'm quite surprised to see Lee Sangyoon so serious and at times even fierce. It's very different from his character in Angel Eyes, where he smiled a lot. He barely smiled twice in the first 2 episodes. Though he looks better smiling than being all serious, it's very sexy at the same time. Hehehe. (You can probably tell how much I like him ♥︎)
The female lead, Nam Dajung (Kim Soeun), is this naive and kind hearted girl who's willing to do anything and believe in whatever other people says. She just doesn't seem to doubt people's intentions which may come across as well... dumb. Of course she's the female lead so the story does mainly revolve around her. Her character seems like a typical Korean drama female lead where she's weak and helpless, needing the help and protection from a smart and strong man. I really like Kim Soeun, I think she really suits this character. Plus, she does the crying scenes so well.
Both the male and female leads have back stories. Of course, some of it was revealed in the first 2 episodes but I have the feeling there'll be more to come! The first 2 episodes already seem quite promising since it was pretty exciting and I was sitting at the edge of my seat, quite literally.
There are other quite prominent characters like the game show host, Kang Doyoung (Shin Sungrok). He's in the drama's poster so I would think his role is quite important as well. It seemed like he has some sort of back story with the male lead. But we'll only be able to find out as the show progresses.
The plot.
The plot was definitely interesting! It didn't even feel like 2 hours went by! I think for the first 2 episodes, there was quite a lot of information to take in and process. It's not exactly a bad thing yet since a show like this shouldn't be too slow moving. But then again, it's still to early to tell what the plot will be like. Though I hope that there'll be some sort of love line between the male and female lead. From the first 2 episodes, it seems like there would indeed be some sort of love line but it's really hard to say. I do hope they go in that direction. Although it's predictable and cliche, I still quite like this kind of romance shows. I mean who wouldn't want a handsome and strong man to protect you right? Hahaha.
And of course, I do not expect things to be anything but complicated. With the intensity and excitement from the first 2 episodes, I can only expect it to be more and more exciting and intense. I hope I won't be disappointed.
So that's my current thoughts from just watching the first 2 episodes. Hehehe. Hope you can feel the intensity and excitement just from reading this.
I'll continue watching this drama and you'll hear from me again when the show is completed ^^

So, finally found the time to update and write my
overall thoughts on this drama!
It's been actually quite some time since the drama finished airing but as usual, I haven't had the time to write down my thoughts and feelings. Just like the other drama reviews I've written, I won't be revealing too much information on this storyline for those who are planning to watch the drama. You might find some parts of this post vague and that's the reason why. Nobody likes spoilers right? Haha.
The characters.
I like the development of the characters in the drama. How they progressed from the beginning to end was interesting to watch. It was pretty predictable but it was still enjoyable to watch nonetheless!
I liked how both Dajung and Woojin changed their perspective on things from the beginning to end. Although I did predict that certain events would be happening, I wanted to see how the drama would unfold and how the whole thing would come together. I'm glad that I wasn't disappointed and there was enough character development instead of just those short flashbacks and vague inner thoughts like some dramas have.
The character of Kang Doyoung had quite an important presence as well. I guess it did surprise me when they revealed the back story of the character. As the episodes went on, I slowly started to suspect that his past might have something to do with Woojin's mother. I guess if you're interested to find out the connection, you'll have to watch the drama! Teehee.
Though I must say, I was a little disappointed by the so-called
love line the drama had. It let me to believe that there was something going on but in the end they didn't provide enough love. I hope you guys are planning on the sequel? Then again if they're going to do a sequel like Vampire Prosecutor, then I'd rather not have one. Lol.
The plot.
Of course with such an exciting beginning of the drama, I expected the excitement to continue throughout the drama. Indeed I was not disappointed! There was suspense and interesting plot developments in every episode. I just had to keep watching to find out what was happening next! There were some parts that were slightly cliche and predictable but there were also parts that were not so I would say it was pretty balanced out. *Two thumbs up*
The ending.
I wouldn't say that I'm disappointed with how it ended but I was expecting something a little more? From the start, the drama kind of gave me the impression that there would be a love line between Dajung and Woojin... To those who were expecting to see the same thing, I guess you would be really disappointed. Then again, it's good to steer away from the cliche story lines? I won't comment more on the ending! I feel that there would be two crowds of people; those that like the ending and those that wanted more. I belong to the latter group. Hahaha. If you've different thoughts about the ending, do leave a comment and let me know!
I would still recommend this drama! It's something quite different from the usual
love and romance kind of story line. Plus the suspense is totally worth watching! Not forgetting Lee Sangyoon! Total eye candy much! Hehehehe ♥
