SHINee Colorful | Review

Wanted to write this song review to commemorate SHINee's anniversary on 25th May but ended up dragging it out and going WAY past the date. Nonetheless, I will still write this post and dedicate it to SHINee!

I think I've loved most songs that SHINee released. I definitely love this song. If I'm not wrong, Colorful is a song dedicated to their fans.

Jukebox #51 떠나지 못해 ♥︎

The song for this week is really another spazz worthy song. I'm not sure if most of you have heard this song but really, the vocals are no joke.

This week's song is none other than SHINee's 떠나지 못해 (Sleepless Night) from their 'Why So Serious' album.

I personally like this song for the high notes that Jonghyun has towards the end of the song. It reminds me how awesome SHINee is despite hearing rumors of them losing popularity in Korea. I mean it also reminds me like how I got into Kpop in the first place!

The first ever Kpop song (not a song from a drama's OST) I heard was SHINee's Replay. And at that time I already fell in love with Onew. It was only much later that I fell completely in love with Kyuhyun but that's another story story altogether. Hehe.

I think this song showcases Minho and Taemin as well. Taemin's vocals definitely have developed well past puberty and I've read that he's been training under the same vocal trainer as Jonghyun. Somehow they do sound slightly similar but I don't know if it's due to the fact they have the same trainer. Minho also gets some singing parts in this song and I must say, he doesn't sound too bad for a rapper. They should give him more singing lines!

Once again, this song would probably be a song that suits my style. Slow and showcases good vocals. I tend to go for songs like that. Hee.

Anyway, that's the end of this weekend's song review! It's a pretty short one but I hope you'll take the time to check this song out during the week while you wait for next weekend's song review! Till then... Annyeong!

Jukebox #33 Stand By Me ♥︎

This week we have SHINee's Stand By Me! The song that started it all. Yes, that's what this song is.

I used to listen to Chinese songs in the past (although my Mandarin was bad). After watching Princess Hours and then Boys Before Flowers, my sister introduced me to this group called SHINee and they sang the song Stand By Me from the OST of Boys Before Flowers. From then onwards, the both of us have liked Kpop and we all know how that went.

For some reason, no matter how many times I've heard this song, I've not gotten sick of it. I guess maybe because it's like the first song? Hahaha. Actually it isn't. I've liked songs from the Princess Hours OST first. But I guess the whole boy group concept and handsome faces of the SHINee members that kind of drew us into the whole Kpop scene.

Although I really like this song and all, I try not to sing this in public. I'm sure most of you would know why! Yes! It's the lyrics. If you listen carefully to the English lyrics of the songs. It sounds weird. If I do ever sing it out loud, I'll sing it as, "Together make it love" instead of what it really is. We all know SM is well known for their awesome English lyrics.

That's it for this week's song recommendation! I thought I'd share a song or two from drama OST as well. Some OST have really good songs and some are really popular too. Till next weekend!

Variety Talk: Fluttering India ♥︎

Just last week I've finished watching the final instalment for 두근두근 인도 or Fluttering India. The season only includes 4 episodes but I thought it was pretty insightful and rather interesting in terms of it being a variety program.

This Variety Program featured the Kyu-line! And Suho and Sunggyu. Who knows Suho and Sunggyu might be a part of the Kyu-line after this program. Hehehe.

For those who aren't familiar with the term Kyu-line... It's basically a group that Kyu started with a few Kpop stars that supposedly resembles him. The main Kyu-line consisted of Super Junior's Kyuhyun, DBSK's Changmin, SHINee's Minho and CNBlue's Jonghyun. I think it was mentioned before that they've hung out at Kyuhyun's house and met up for meals.

So Fluttering India was aired on KBS with a total of 4 episodes. The members were supposed to work with a reporter and collect information about India. They needed to find out why Kpop wasn't popular in India and how could they enter the Indian market.

Although it was funny at parts, it was very interesting watching the members going around interviewing people and collecting information. They were really passionate about this report and for a moment they didn't seem like just Kpop stars but they were doing something well, other than dancing and singing. Not only that, viewers got to see India and learn about the Indian culture without actually being there. So actually this variety show had some sort of documentary show element to it as well. Well, since it was a KBS program, they might also be trying to promote a KBS reporters' job.

Their aim was to get on the KBS 9PM news, which I suppose is the most watched news. However, they made it on the KBS 7AM news which I thought it was quite a waste but also good since they did manage to get their story out there.

Those are the good parts about this program. However, I did read some bad things about this program, I'm not sure how true they are but it sounds pretty real to me...

As the program's main focus is for the members to find out why Kpop isn't popular in India and how they can come into the Indian market, it was rumoured that the Kpop fans that went to the airport were told not to approach, come near or take photos of the Kpop stars at the airport. These Kpop fans followed the words of the filming crew and staff because the fans were told if they didn't follow the rules, the staff would cancel the show. So the fans silently watched from a distance as the Kpop stars arrived at the airport and left, disappointed that there were no fans to welcome them.

It does make sense to me because if any evidence of fans were shown, then the entire show wouldn't have a purpose and their topic wouldn't stand. I'm sure there are fans in India (that even bothered to travel to the airport) but not as many as other countries. I think the production crew didn't want to change the script and they didn't want to film any parts again in order to retain the authenticity of emotions.

On the whole, I still enjoyed watching all 4 episodes of this program though it was sad that Changmin didn't get to come along. Hopefully, there'll be another season to this and we'll get to see Changmin and Kyuhyun interact. I'm curious! And I'm sure you are too. Hehehe.

Jukebox #21 Hello ♥

Another weekend song recommendation! The songs haven't been chosen randomly by the shuffle mode in iTunes for some weeks now as I've decided to feature some of my favourites that aren't really that well known. Or at least I think these songs need more love. Haha.

Let's get started! I'll be recommending SHINee's Hello this week!

This song was released in 2010 and though that seemed just like yesterday, it's already been 4 years 0.0 No wonder the boys were sporting strange hairdos though nonetheless still very handsome. Hahaha. I thought that SHINee deserved their own special feature too! Thus the special feature this week! I tend to pay more attention to Super Junior and even EXO now that I forget SHINee - the group that first got me started on KPOP. So I guess if I really wanted to blame someone for getting me hooked all these years. SHINee... That's you!

Haha but the point of this post is not to blame anyone! So let's move on with the actual topic. I think many people haven't paid attention to this song somehow. If I were to ask someone what their favourite SHINee song was, it definitely wouldn't be 'Hello'.

To support my point, I asked some friends what their favourite SHINee song was and here are their responses:

F: Replay.
L: One.
V: Aside.
J: Jojo.
D: Sherlock.

So you see. Nobody really pays attention to this song. Though I'm quite sure people don't really pay attention to SHINee anymore nowadays. Though it's something I really don't want to admit.

The lyrics of the song tell of well, the usual love story. Just like how the title is, the song talks about a guy building up the courage to greet a girl he likes. It's also the story line the MV has. Of course, the way the boys acted it out, it's totally adorable! Who wouldn't want the SHINee members to secretly have a crush on them right? Hehehe. At the same time I think that the most edited photo would be of Onew in the MV. I've seen so many edits of Onew holding chicken instead of a bouquet of flowers. I can't seem to find the edits now but it's seriously funny! Haha!

If you're reading this... Please give SHINee some love. It's kind of sad that they're popularity here dropped a lot. There used to be many SHINee fans here and unfortunately now I think people just lost interest and companies aren't willing to bring in SHINee World concerts anymore. I can't say it's any better for Super Junior. On a side note, I really hope they bring in Super Show 6.

Many apologies the post got a little sad. Stay tuned for next week's song recommendation! I haven't decided which group to feature yet so I might return to the usual way these posts are written!

토요일 Tunes #7 Love Like Oxygen ♥

Kpop. Shuffle. Play.
I just realised I've had the tagline wrong in the previous few song recommendation posts >< It should be "Kpop. Shuffle. Play." instead of "Kpop. Press. Play." I was wondering when it changed. It's meant to be like a random way of choosing the songs that I would recommend since I do actually like all the songs in my song library. So why don't let the shuffle play choose a song for me! Hehehe.

Moving on! This week's song recommendation is none other than SHINee's Love Like Oxygen (산소 같은 너)!

This is like a really old song! Although it was uploaded on Youtube in 2011, the song was actually released on 25th August 2008! It would make it SHINee's first comeback and second song after Replay, that was released on 22nd May 2008. So I guess this kind of shows how long its been since I started liking Kpop. This was one of the few songs I've heard from SHINee that got me hooked into everything Korean! I think it was in 2010 that I officially became ELF. Before that it was SHINee for me ><

It's good to talk about old songs sometimes. It's usually the older songs that are good and somewhat better. But of course I'm not generalising, I'm just saying it's like that most of the time. So while I was doing research for this post (yes, I do research on a song before talking about it especially since I may get some information wrong if I don't), I found out something interesting about the lyrics, there were no English words in the whole song! Not even those random English word that SM groups are infamous for. But I guess it was after Ring Ding Dong that all the random English words started sprouting and it became a norm to have some sort of English word in a song.

While watching the video, just like old times, I realised how young the boys look! They looked so pure and innocent then! Now it's like eyeliner and funky clothes. Not that it's a bad thing to look young then. They started the colourful skinny jeans trend anyway! ^^

At first, I started out with liking Onew. I mean I still like Onew but then I really disliked Minho. I mean I can see why. What's up with his hair? It's like so stiff and obviously coated with hairspray >< I prefer the fluffy haired Minho. I regret to inform that I'm like shuffling between Onew and Minho for the favourite member spot. At one point in time it was Minho but there's always a soft spot for Onew. He'll always be my dubu ♥

xoxo, Fid♥

#2 Kpop Song of the Week

What's the song that begins with an addictive beat and oh so cute butt shake?

This week's song of the week is SHINee's Why So Serious! I decided to write this post randomly just cos I realized that SHINee felt different without Jonghyun.

What happened to Jjong? He met with a car accident and had a broken nose so throughout the promotion of this song, they performed with 4 members.

Etude House Pink Play Party

Etude House Pink Play Party! It was quite a confusing day but thankfully everything went well and we got to enjoy the Pink Play Party and of course SHINee's performance.

Thanks many to Mel언니 and V언니 for the tickets! I was quite sad that at first but so excited when we got the tickets to see SHINee. Hehe. So I did a short vlog highlighting some parts of the event ^^
