This Variety Program featured the Kyu-line! And Suho and Sunggyu. Who knows Suho and Sunggyu might be a part of the Kyu-line after this program. Hehehe.
For those who aren't familiar with the term Kyu-line... It's basically a group that Kyu started with a few Kpop stars that supposedly resembles him. The main Kyu-line consisted of Super Junior's Kyuhyun, DBSK's Changmin, SHINee's Minho and CNBlue's Jonghyun. I think it was mentioned before that they've hung out at Kyuhyun's house and met up for meals.
So Fluttering India was aired on KBS with a total of 4 episodes. The members were supposed to work with a reporter and collect information about India. They needed to find out why Kpop wasn't popular in India and how could they enter the Indian market.
Although it was funny at parts, it was very interesting watching the members going around interviewing people and collecting information. They were really passionate about this report and for a moment they didn't seem like just Kpop stars but they were doing something well, other than dancing and singing. Not only that, viewers got to see India and learn about the Indian culture without actually being there. So actually this variety show had some sort of documentary show element to it as well. Well, since it was a KBS program, they might also be trying to promote a KBS reporters' job.
Their aim was to get on the KBS 9PM news, which I suppose is the most watched news. However, they made it on the KBS 7AM news which I thought it was quite a waste but also good since they did manage to get their story out there.
Those are the good parts about this program. However, I did read some bad things about this program, I'm not sure how true they are but it sounds pretty real to me...
As the program's main focus is for the members to find out why Kpop isn't popular in India and how they can come into the Indian market, it was rumoured that the Kpop fans that went to the airport were told not to approach, come near or take photos of the Kpop stars at the airport. These Kpop fans followed the words of the filming crew and staff because the fans were told if they didn't follow the rules, the staff would cancel the show. So the fans silently watched from a distance as the Kpop stars arrived at the airport and left, disappointed that there were no fans to welcome them.
It does make sense to me because if any evidence of fans were shown, then the entire show wouldn't have a purpose and their topic wouldn't stand. I'm sure there are fans in India (that even bothered to travel to the airport) but not as many as other countries. I think the production crew didn't want to change the script and they didn't want to film any parts again in order to retain the authenticity of emotions.
On the whole, I still enjoyed watching all 4 episodes of this program though it was sad that Changmin didn't get to come along. Hopefully, there'll be another season to this and we'll get to see Changmin and Kyuhyun interact. I'm curious! And I'm sure you are too. Hehehe.
